Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Tuesday 12 March 2018. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 11 March 2018.

2. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It was a cold wet day for the start of the fishing season but the Goth FFC started theirs with a great outing on Saturday by catching 44 fish for 138lbs 12oz and the winner was Dean Caulder with 4 fish for 14lbs 2oz with Steven Leyden taking the runner up spot with 4 fish for 14lbs. Also doing well was B Gribble from Edinburgh with 4 fish weighing 11lbs 4oz on Black 7 green lures, Andy Young, Furnace on 2 visits had 8 fish for 24lbs on an Ally, Colin Clement, Tyndrum, 4 fish for 14lbs - best 6lbs on the Okey Dokey and Jim Linton from Moodiesburn used a Goldie to take 4 for 12lbs 8oz.

3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The start of the week saw a very quiet time at Swanswater with few anglers venturing out in the snowy conditions which led to thick slush settling on the surface of the pond. During the rest of the week there was slightly restricted fishing due to ice forming as the water temperatures dropped to 1 degree, the lowest for some time. Fish were all deep in the water with most being caught around 5 to 6 feet down and deeper at times. On Thursday Donald McRae from Isle of Skye found a thin sliver of clear water in the ice behind the island and was rewarded with 4 fish in just over 30 minutes, taken on an Ace of Spades. The water temperature started to rise as the weather improved, though the bright sun on Friday meant fishing was quite tricky. Saturday was a cold and rainy day but due to the rise in water temperature the fishing was really good, with the fish well spread out around Swanswater and not quite so deep, with the Golds being seen close to the surface. Heather Johnson won the Troutmasters fish off on Saturday and will represent Swanswater in the final. The majority of fish are still being taken on the usual lures, including Dancer, Cats and Damsel with a few being taken on wet flies and Diawl Bach. Thursday will see the start of the start of the Brown Trout season, and as usual a large number of Browns will be stocked for the big day. This year it will also coincide with a stocking of our latest batch of Tiger Trout.
