Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Tuesday 05 March 2018. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 04 March 2018.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles). NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 2018

2. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

 3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Despite some horrific Arctic weather, the Kingennie resort has been open for fishing on most days. However, angling numbers have naturally been well down. Top rod on the Boathouse Pool was Mr. Hogg who returned a very creditable 10 fish and James Smith found a Hare’s Ear worked well, releasing four fish in a short session. Scott Watson likewise had a short outing on the Burnside Pool and managed three fish on Buzzers, the largest being a fine rainbow estimated at 10lbs. Dave Whitecross also returned three in a morning session, taken on Yellow Dancer whilst Nick Soave took three rainbows for a total of 6lbs 8oz. Frank Sherriff again did well on the Bankside Pool returning three fish with the best being a superb rainbow of 9lbs 02ozs. The any legal method pool, the Woodside, received minimal attention but Mr. Snowden caught a couple of rainbows that tipped the scales at 5lbs. Float fished Powerbait or Mepps type spinners are producing the best results.
Although conditions are still on the rough side our fishery is open and we look forward to seeing you.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) With the Beast from the East hitting hard midweek the Fishery was closed from Wednesday to Saturday.   After a lot of hard work clearing the platforms and car park of lying and drifted snow saw the fishery re-opening on Sunday and hope to stay open as the aerators should cope with any sub-zero temperatures the remaining winter has to throw at us. With very few anglers venturing out there is not much to report although some of those who fished did very well with last Monday being a the best day.   The fish were generally deep in the water due to the very low temperature and were taking small lures or nymphs.
Amongst those who braved the weather was Robert Smith from Falkirk with 2 for 9lb 8oz including a 5lb Rainbow, plus 2 C&R, Billy Allison, Whitburn, 5 for 12lb from the Meadow Pond including 2 Blues, Derek Russell, Bathgate, 5 for 12lb 8oz from the Meadow Pond, including a Blue and a Gold, plus 3 Golds C&R and Alec Knox, Glasgow, 3 for 11lb 4oz. Robert Anderson, Longriggend, 2 for 8lb 8oz, Gregor Bulloch, Falkirk, 2 for 7lb 8oz including a Gold, plus 1 C&R, Greg McPhillips, Dunipace, caught and released 10, Noel Whitelaw, Dunipace, caught and released 7, Scott Anderson, Kilsyth, caught and released 5 and Robert Cochrane returned a Gold estimated at 7lb.Many other anglers caught and released up to 3 fish.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) NO REPORTS UNTIL MARCH 2018
