4. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a very quiet week due to the onslaught of Christmas and the poor weather but Dave Smith from Dunbar managed 5 on a Bloodworm, Kenny Morrison, Edinburgh, 4 on Lures and David Bullen from Edinburgh used Buzzers to catch and release 4. Mark Anderson from Musselburgh had 5 on Blobs and Keir Baikie from Edinburgh had 3 on a Pink Bloodworm.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The weather was a lot colder this week but it remained settled and dry.Water temperature went from 3oC down to 2oC, then back up to 3oC.Water clarity remains excellent. The effect of the cold was not only to send the fish deeper but also determined their location within the main pond.On Saturday and more so on Sunday fish were to be found in the area being the islands and in the channel where they were taking advantage of slightly warmer water coming down the burn.Generally the fish were around 4 to 5 feet down on Swanswater, and slightly shallower in the small ponds.A slow retrieve on an intermediate or sink tip line was the best tactic.Small lures, and the occasional nymph, were the best flies with favourite patterns including Damsel, Montana, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Snake and various Fritz patterns. The cold weather has stirred up the Brown trout and many are being caught and returned including a few over 5lb. The annual “Day after Boxing Day” Charity Competition will be held on 27th December.   Entry, including lunch and an after fishing drink, is £20.The competition is all catch and release.Fishing vouchers and other valuable prizes will be up for grabs.  There will also be the usual raffle offering a wide selection of goodies!
