4. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The fishing was very good during the week with the fish in the top couple of feet of the water.   At the weekend, the thundery weather made things a bit harder and fish were reported to be taking short resulting in many frustrating misses.   A reasonably quick retrieve was the best tactic most days.   Although no big fish were landed, a few estimated around 9lb or 10lb were released or lost, and more were spotted in the water which remains very clear.    Dries, wets and small nymphs were taking fish all week, even in the bright sun, with favourite patterns being Sedge, Yellow Owl, Snatcher, Bibio, Kate McLaren, Hare’s Ear, Damsel and PTN.  Small lures were also taking fish.   Most evenings the conditions were good and plenty of fish were seen moving on or just under the surface and some great sport was enjoyed. On Saturday morning the Fishery hosted a Children’s Come and Try session organised with Stirling Council Fisheries.   14 youngsters attended and enjoyed a good morning learning about fly fishing and receiving some excellent coaching from a group of SANA coaches.   It is hoped that this will lead to the junior club, the Swanswater Cygnets, starting up again over the summer months.   Any youngsters interested in learning how to fly fish or improving their technique should contact the Fishery.
